Tagore Monument – Design and Installation
Rabindranath Tagore stands out as one of the world’s greatest poets, philosophers and international peace makers. In Scotland, and in India, his values were shared by his great friend, Sir Patrick Geddes.
BTA were commissioned to organise the design, siting in the Sandeman House garden off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and installation of a bust made by India’s foremost Sculptor, Ram V Sutar, donated by the Indian Government to the Scottish Centre of Tagore Studies. Consents had to be obtained, the bronze restored and the lettering for the plinth was carried out by John Neilson. The two men are now in a beautiful garden and in eternal conversation.
