New Community – An Camas Mor

Situated in the Cairngorms National Park across the River Spey from Aviemore, An Camas Mòr will be a complete ‘new community in the Highlands’ by 2027, with 1,500 homes, workplaces and its own school, hotel, supermarket, care home, commercial and leisure facilities.

Aviemore

Full Description

It is based around a traditionally planned spine-like central High Street with a variety of minor streets, pends and open spaces.

Developed with David Sim of Gehl Architects, Copenhagen, the core design principle is to provide a ‘good habitat for people’ by concentrating on the concepts of Life, Space and Buildings to create a special place with housing, community and work space for all.  A low carbon footprint will be created by minimizing the need for motor transport and maximising local energy generation and solar gain.

The project has been recognised as one of eleven ‘exemplars‘ under the ‘Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative’ (SSCI).

Planning Permission has been received and the first phase is ready to proceed.
