Kitchen Alterations, Edinburgh
The design transforms a dark and unusually shaped back kitchen. This was achieved by making two distinct and characterful areas; a kitchen and dining space.
Arts & Craft inspired the layout, detailing & finishing. A large continuous cornice extends around the entire room unifying both spaces, forming the top edge of the new shelving and kitchen units. The area below the cornice formed the functional and intimate spaces whilst maintaining the high and airy space above.
The existing lightwell was generously expanded above the dining area. Open shelving formed the dining space, separating it from the kitchen area without closing it off completely again to allow light through. With the Client, furniture, finishes and fittings were carefully chosen to compliment the Arts & Craft elements and their personal treasures, now on display.
