Camera Obscura & World of Illusions – Edinburgh
Outlook Tower is the oldest purpose built visitor attraction in the Capital, and one of world’s most significant and unusual buildings by virtue of more than 150 years of education and entertainment through exhibitions and its famous Camera Obscura, its prominence on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, and its international importance as Patrick Geddes’s Outlook Tower.
As a self-funded public attraction, the building’s only income has been from visitors; yet difficulties with identity and signage have been a problem from the beginning. The Office has discussed various options with the clients and the City of Edinburgh Council. A sympathetic solution has been proposed based on the original painted signage from Short’s Observatory still visible.
