Located in a picturesque part of the highlands, this traditional single storey stone cottage was in a poor state of repair and hadn’t been used for some years. The brief was for a retirement home with 2 bedrooms and good storage.

These eight houses for Barra & Vatersay Housing Association were the product of a year-long community consultation process undertaken by the Practice and Housing Association.

Attached to a 1930’s family house this highly insulated open plan room accommodates a spacious kitchen and areas for sitting and dining.

The Brief was to provide generous storage in a main principal room within a converted and sub-divided Category A Listed country house.

The design transforms a dark and unusually shaped back kitchen. This was achieved by making two distinct and characterful areas; a kitchen and dining space.

Repairing the windows and rebuilding stonework to this Mews building has made a considerable difference to the area as well as the comfort of the occupiers.

A derelict kitchen wing attached to the North Wing of this Grade A listed house was converted to form a two storey space with a living area connected by a timber & steel spiral staircase to a private library on the upper level.

Centered on a ‘village green’ and supported by a range of excellent facilities Kirk Park Care Village was given Planning Consent to provide combined housing, health and care needs of the over 55s.

Works to semi-ruinous Fountainhall Steading began with a thorough understanding of the history and development of the complex. A measured survey and investigations showed that the four sides dated to the 18th century and had been built separately for quite different uses.

After a national outcry about a previous scheme on the brownfield site opposite Balmerino Abbey, Benjamin Tindall Architects were commissioned to design five houses that respected the genius loci of the place.
