ROMANTIC ‘WHITE MUGHAL’ DOLL’S HOUSE MODEL RESTORED
When Ben visited the Hyderabad Residency (1803) in March 2005, one of the most poignant symbols of its distress was the near destruction of the famous miniature doll’s house model of it that James Kirkpatrick made for his wife, Khair un Nissa, the main subject of William Dalrymple’s book, the White Mughals. Its recent restoration is now a symbol of the welcome and long overdue restoration of the Residency itself; one of the most impressive British buildings in India.
