It’s not every day that a church finial gets the star treatment, but at St Mary’s, Lochee, a divine gleam at the top of the Sanctuary now catches the eye.  The church’s finial received a celestial upgrade, thanks to a remarkable collaboration between two skilled teams: Igoe Steeplejacks and Nevin of Edinburgh decorators.

With remarkable coordination, access was safely planned and executed high above the Sanctuary.  Igoe’s team engineered a small working platform, manually lifting the finial out of its socket — a feat of patience, strength and balance only a steeplejack could manage.  The finial was delivered to Nevin’s, who at short notice applied the gilding touch, reviving the finial’s golden brilliance.

Thanks to clear organisation, expert craftsmanship and teamwork, St Mary’s once again gleams proudly across Lochee.
