QUEENSFERRY CROSSING
Who designed the wonderful new Forth Bridge? Unlike in Scandinavia, it seems to be a feature of UK society that designers get very little credit; we seem more interested in who retails something. Normally ‘success has many fathers’ but here the father is extraordinarily modest and almost invisible. His name is Naeem Hussain, studied at the West Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and now 73 years old, a partner in Arup, which he joined in 1969, after an architectural diploma at the Architectural Association and a further degree at Imperial College.
