FESTIVAL FRINGE SOCIETY The Fringe shopfront has become a recognisable image throughout the world; it has almost become the image of the Festival. The 'shop window' shopfront was designed as a proscenium arch framed by 'caryatids' modelled by Gerald Scarfe in collaboration with the Practice and lit by the world's first specially designed pavement lights. Behind the shop are offices, connected to the ticket office below and storage. Removing the lower sections of the tenement stair allowed for the great flexibility that is required backstage to cope with huge numbers of people during the Festival. |
