THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEONS OF EDINBURGH -SYMPOSIUM HALL To celebrate its 500th year, the College wished its conference facilities brought up to the highest standard by doubling seating capacity and installing modern facilities. A former Church, the Greek cross layout had four central columns supporting the timber roof trusses. Removing these intrusive columns whilst supporting the roof involved the Practice inventing three-dimensional steel trusses, imperceptible in the original roof profile. Special low energy lights were designed and high quality seating selected. The Hall now appears more spacious with unimpeded views and excellent acoustics, whilst feeling intimate and focussed. |
